The period of junior youth is a special time, as children transition to young adolescence and undergo profound change. This program equips junior youth with the spiritual, intellectual, and physical powers that are needed to navigate this crucial stage of their lives. The surging energy that is generated during this time is channeled towards meaningful acts of service that help develop a sound moral identity and empower them to take ownership over the wellbeing of their communities.

Service projects
The junior youth groups also design and carry out service projects in their community. These projects help junior youth develop the capacity to think of the needs of their community, consult with one another, and interact with other community members. Junior youth who have been involved in the programme has carried out projects such as:
Community Clean-up: An initiative led by junior youth to beautify and clean the environment of their community.
Gurudwara Seva: Collaboration with local Gurdwaras (Sikh temples) to aid with food service.
Children’s Carnival: Organizing arts and physical activities for children in the neighbourhood.
What are junior groups?
Junior youth groups aim to develop a young person’s powers of expression and strengthen their capacity to think critically and make positive decisions in their lives. This is done through the study of a series of texts that contain simple, yet profound stories about the lives of young people all around the world. These are a few examples of the texts that are studied:
Wellsprings of Joy: Learning to recognize the source of true happiness
Glimmerings of Hope: Exploring the choices and attitudes that contribute to hope, even during the hardest of times.
Thinking about Numbers: Reflecting on mathematical concepts and the application to social reality.

Who guides the group?
Each group is guided by an older youth known as an “Animator”. As a true friend, the animator of the group assists the members in the development of their talents and capacities. The animator ensures the space is safe and establishes a healthy relationship with the families of the junior youth.
